Stump Grinding
Below-grade stump grinding so you can level the area, sod, mulch, or prep for hardscape. Old stump, new stump, big stump, small stump — we grind them all.
What's included
Here's how we approach it.
- Grinding to 4-8 inches below grade for grass and beds.
- Deeper grinding when you're putting in hardscape or need extra clearance.
- Shavings can be left in place to backfill or hauled off on request.
- Surface roots ground or left, depending on what you're putting in.
- Tight-access grinders for backyards and small gates.
More detail
What to expect, from quote to cleanup.
Most homeowners want a stump gone because they're putting in grass, adding a bed, installing hardscape, or they're simply tired of mowing around it. Those goals can call for different grinding depths and different cleanup. When we walk the job, we ask what you're doing with the area next — that decides the grinding depth and whether shavings stay as fill or get hauled away.
Common questions
FAQ.
How deep do you grind?
Standard is 4-6 inches below grade. Deeper on request for hardscape or extra clearance.
Do roots come up too?
Surface roots radiating from the stump can be ground for a few feet out. Deeper roots stay in place and decompose naturally.
What about the shavings?
Your call. Most people use them to backfill the hole and let them settle. We're happy to haul them away instead.
Can you reach a backyard stump?
Usually yes. We have a narrow-access grinder that fits through a standard gate.
